Take an atmospheric steam train journey on one of the most famous standard gauge heritage railways in the country through Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside hugging the beautiful Severn Valley all the way to the end of the line.

Take a journey back in time as one of the vintage steam-hauled trains meanders its way from Kidderminster on a scenic 16-mile long ride on the fully restored Severn Valley Railway. The train passes through peaceful scenery, beautifully restored stations and the line's iconic Victoria Bridge along the way to arrive in the pretty medieval market town of Bridgnorth located on the River Servern with its old quayside, gardens and lovely Georgian architecture. The journey between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Perhaps allow time at Kidderminster Station to visit Kidderminster Railway Museum. Located adjacent to platform 2, this small museum is packed with railway artefacts of all kinds and is full of atmosphere. Admission is free and the museum hosts a number of exhibitions annually which take place in the upstairs gallery. Visit to find out more. You can also find The King & Castle Public House, The Valley Suite Restaurant and a gift shop.

A number of Special Events take place throughout the year.

Accessibility: Specially adapted vehicles, which allow wheelchair access, are available on certain trains. Disability-friendly toilets are also fitted in some of these vehicles. At all stations, excluding Northwood and Country Park Halts, ramps are available which connect between the train and the platform. The train crew and station staff will assist passengers in wheelchairs if required; they are used to doing this. Wheelchairs can be accommodated on trains, but MUST be stored in the Guard's Carriage when travelling.

Dining trains: Due to the historic design of dining car carriages with their narrow doors and gangways, it is NOT possible to accommodate wheelchairs at a table in one of these carriages. It is also important to note that passengers with mobility issues will need to climb up or down a step to get into or out of the train. For those who are able to walk a short distance wheelchairs can be folded and carried in the brake van.

Kidderminster Railway Museum: There is a ramp for wheelchairs giving access to the ground floor but no disabled access to the upper floor.

  • Enjoy a ride on a steam locomotive through the Severn Valley, with an option of Afternoon Tea.
