Day 1

Coach pick-up from your bowls club (or location of your choice) and proceed to your Sudbury town centre hotel located in the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

 

Day 2

This morning, head northwards into the quaint market town of Framlingham with its magnificent late 12th-century castle and explore the local area before joining Framlingham Castle Bowls Club http://framlinghamcastlebowlsclub.suffolk.cloud/ for an afternoon fixture.

 

Day 3

Spend the day exploring your local area, or head over to nearby Ipswich, East Anglia’s waterfront town. In the afternoon, Marlborough Bowls Club http://marlboroughbowlsclub.co.uk/ for your final afternoon fixture.

 

Day 4

We depart in the morning for the historic town of Colchester, where its Roman heritage lets it claim to be the oldest recorded town in Britain.

Proceed to Colchester Bowls Club https://www.colchesterbowlingclub.org/ for an afternoon fixture.

 

Day 5

After a hearty breakfast, make your way back home.

Colchester Castle

Colchester Castle is the largest Norman Keep in Europe. It was constructed on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius, built when Colchester was the first Roman capital of Britain.

The Castle is one of England's most important heritage sites and one of the most popular visitor attractions in the East of England. The Museum showcases archaeological collections of international quality covering 2,000 years of history, including some of the most important Roman finds in Britain.

Layer Marney Tower

Layer Marney Tower is a beautiful Tudor building surrounded by formal gardens and parkland with magnificent views to the Blackwater Estuary. Built of soft red brick, with a delightful warm tone, Layer Marney Tower achieves an extraordinary synthesis of grandeur and intimacy, that has delighted visitors ever since the Marney's began construction around 1515. What stands today is a small part of Henry, 1st Lord Marney's dream. He was Lord Privy Seal to Henry VIII, and he intended his palace to surpass, in both size and grandeur, Cardinal Wolsey's similar work at Hampton Court. He died in 1523 and his son died two years later. they had finished the church, stable block and front side of the courtyarded palace. Layer Marney Tower is the tallest Tudor Gatehouse in the country. 
 

Accessibility: The tower has 99 steps. Most of the visitors are elderly – some just do one floors. It is rare no one can do the walk tower
